As another year passes, the Polaris team grows, and more Landlords progress toward the over-arching goal of Financial Freedom. But of course, no milestone can be met without the small victories along the way. No destination can be reached without a sense of direction. Even when we know our direction at the beginning of the journey, the day-to-day activity makes it easy to forget without a Guiding Star to keep us on track.

For thousands of years, brave sailors and explorers relied on Polaris, aka the North Star, as an excellent fixed point for navigation, especially during turbulent times and rough seas. Because Polaris lies nearly in a direct line with the axis of the Earth’s rotation above the North Pole, it stands almost motionless in the night-sky.

Likewise, the team at Polaris Property Management follows four internal Guiding Stars, what some might call “principles,” as our navigational guide in daily decisions for Landlords, tenants, and Vendors.

For proper mental marinating to take place, let’s break them down into four separate posts. We’ll focus on the first Guiding Star for now:

We are owners. We think long-term and don’t sacrifice long-term value for short-term results.

What exactly is an “owner” in this context? Not in the literal meaning of the word, but someone that takes ownership of their own position, projects, etc. An owner is a problem solver. A leader. A “Don’t worry, I got this,” type of person.

A valuable team member that prioritizes long-term value in every situation.

Taking ownership means standing up and announcing that you are responsible for executing a task or project. This might be something outside of your job description… Quite possibly even a task you don’t want to do at all.

Above all else, taking ownership also means not cutting corners to get the job done easier/faster/sooner. What it really means is the key to operating smoothly as a team – getting the job done right.
